Visit from the HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen

On Thursday 22.11 we received a visit of students of the Sustainable Mobilities program in the ‚Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Umwelt‘ (HfWU) Nürtingen-Geislingen.

The teaching assistant Luka Nitschke and his 12 international students wanted to discuss with us how a small intervention like our parklet and urban garden has impacted the community around and what are the benefits and side-downs of such recoveries of public space.

We shared our experience in rethinking public space uses to achieve a livable and active community. Our neighbour Gilbert explain the whole refurbishing process of Schützenplatz, starting in 2013 when the Stadtplanungsamt took the project back from the shelves after more than 10 years, and how in a fast reaction from the community they organized and talk with the city to initiate a participatory process to improve the roundabout originally proposed.

Now after 3 years of that participatory process, the parklet and urban garden are the statement of an active community still demanding for quality pedestrian infrastructure.
