Der Schützenplatz bekommt ein neues Bücherregal

🎶 When something’s old, let us put a bit of shine on it…

(DE – unten)

Surprisingly, since this -new normal- hit the city two months ago, many new people have been discovering their city, even their streets and neighbours for the first time.

First rule to activate a (public) space: Turn it from a transit zone, into a destination. And books are a pretty noble way to reach different audiences in a neighbourhood.

That’s why, a couple of days ago we transform an old structure, remaining from the 2017’s summer-school ‚Lokal Schützenplatz‘ into a bookshelf. We replace our tiny old bookshelf with this even ‚tinier public library‘

For the transformation we collect old wood, from roof-lats, palets, until wood floor under-structures. Part of our concept at CASA Schützenplatz, since „we are a temporary square“, is to use as little new materials as possible. At the same time we show that some materials that we may consider ready to dispose, are in fact still strong enough for a second life.

With this bigger variety we hope to extend the staying-possibilities for new and curious neighbours, and at the same time, show one of the thousand way that dead-ends and forgotten sidewalks can become neighbourhoods landmark, stop-over spots, meeting points.

The CASA Library works with donations and exchanges from the community. So, please pass by, and share some meaningful readings with your city.

*And Please don’t bring old Dictionaries 🙂
